Resale royalty scheme refined

Eligible resales of artworks worth less than $1,000 will no longer have to be reported to Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) under changes announced by Federal Arts Minister, Simon Crean, in December.

According to Jim Alexander, chief executive of CAL: “The changes will reduce administration for art market professionals who have worked with us to ensure the scheme delivers benefits to Australia’s artists.”

This is a welcome and sensible refinement of the resale royalty scheme, however there is still a long way to go for the scheme to achieve operational efficiency for the arts industry.
